WITH
  • Smoke Screen can be used both to escape and to set up a kill.
  • Using Quickdraw to get into range and delivering a point blank Buckshot can do lots of damage.
VERSUS
  • Graves deals mostly physical damage so Armor is an effective counter.
  • Leaving the Smoke Screen's area of effect removes the harmful effect immediately.

Malcolm Graves is a renowned mercenary, gambler, and thief—a wanted man in every city and empire he has visited. Even though he has an explosive temper, he possesses a strict sense of criminal honor, often enforced at the business end of his double-barreled shotgun Destiny. In recent years, he has reconciled a troubled partnership with Twisted Fate, and together they have prospered once more in the turmoil of Bilgewater's criminal underbelly.

Introduction

Graves

Hello everyone! There is an old Korean saying "A Journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step", this saying has absolutely nothing to do with today's champion, I just wanted to drop it down here because I think it is a cool saying.

But anyways, the Season 8 is already here and the meta-game is starting to settle. Of course we can't tell for sure which champions are going to be god tier at the moment, however if you want to change your main role in this year, the begging of the Season is a great moment to do so.

Graves is a great start, and I will tell you why in the next section.

Spells 1
(popular) standard build
 MY FAVORITE BUILD
Situational/defensive
For the second Build, I am still trying it out to see if it's always safe or no, as I am not having the time to play these days I'd not fully recommend it. But the idea is to combo Duskblade of Drakthaar damage with Statik Shiv and Deadman's Plate
● Hunt and eliminate prey
Domination
  • Electrocute
  • Sudden Impact
  • Zombie Ward
  • Relentless Hunter
● Become a legend

1Chapter 1: Why Graves?

High Damage:

When it comes to ranged champions [i]Graves[i] has one of higher base-damage in the game, you can almost play the role of an assassin depending on the game aspects. If you are strong enough, you can change the result of an entire Team Fight by just landing a good End of The Line(Q) + Collateral Damage(R). Plus he has a huge survivability due to the armor you gain each time you use Quick Draw (E) Back then, Quick Draw used to grant Magic Resist as well, but this has been nerfed.

Fast Clear:
Graves has one of the fastest clears in the game, and due to your ability to 'Kite' the jungle monsters pretty well, you barely take any damage. Meaning that you could Full clear your side of the jungle and still put up a gank. After a full clear you will be nearly level 4.

Graves' ability to clear the jungle camps really quickly, also allows you to invade the enemy side of the jungle and depending on the situation, you can take up to 3 camps really quickly and leave.

Check out Tarzaned's video explaining how you can full-clear the jungle without barely taking any damage:

I will be using a lot of Tarzaned's videos throughout the course of this guide in order to explain and showcase some concepts for you, so read on!

2Chapter 2 :Abilities

Quickdraw Quickdraw:

Well, there is nothing much to say about the abilities itself, they are all pretty simple and obvious and all of you might have seen what they do through Tarzaned's video in the previous section. What I want to emphasize though, is that Quickdraw Quickdraw stacks armor every time you use it, so definitely abuse this mechanic!

Back then, there was a bug that if you pressed R+E very quickly you could cancel the animation of the ultimate, but this has been fixed in some patch in the season 7.

3Chapter 3: Runes

In the runes section above I suggested taking the Domination tree Domination followed by the PrecisionPrecision as secondary choice and I will explain why I think this is one of the best combination of runes for Graves.

Well, if you access ProBuilds or any other website that gives you an overlook of what builds the pros are using, you might have seen a lot of players using Fleet Footwork Fleet Footwork and quite a few using Electrocute Electrocute

My Opinion:

Why do I not like Fleet Footwork? Honestly, it sucks for the early game and I don't believe it is a good option for late game as well.

Why are many Pros using it then?
I suppose it is because many players used to run a lot of attack-speed on him, and if you look at the stats the Precision Tree gives you, it does give a lot of attack-speed, and the Fleet Footwork works quite fine with the Lethality Build.

But I believe Graves needs more burst, specially on the early stages of the game, and Electrocute is the best option if you are looking for burst.

You could also try out the other options on the Domination Tree and see how it goes!

4Chapter 4: Jungle Pathing and Tips

Well, as I am not a high-elo graves player, I am going to leave this section with the videos where Tarzaned explains some jungle concepts!

Make sure you check his Twitch Channel too.

I hope you learn a lot, because I did!

Early Game Pathing:

Wave Management:

How to Gank:

How to Tower Dive:

5Conclusion and Where to go from Here

So, did you learn a lot? I really hope you did. This guide had a lot less sections because as you could see there were a bunch of videos explaining some very cool concepts on Tarzaned's channel. If you want more info I encourage you to check out his Youtube and his Twitch, but I hope the videos on the section above gave you a big picture of the jungle.

From here, you can either start practicing Graves or go seek more information about jungle (On youtube there's quite a lot of info) if you search things like "Ultimate 2018 Jungle Guide" you'll have a lot of results popping up on your screen, choosing what content you want to see is up to you, just don't stop learning until you feel like you're good enough!

Obviously, special thanks for Tarzaned for all the great content!
